Projects

Earthquakes have had considerable destructive impacts on society in terms of human casualties, infrastructure and property damage, and economic losses. Building a disaster-resilient and sustainable environment requires the ability to more reliably predict the system-level response of buildings, critical facilities, and other civil infrastructure systems to these extreme events.

More than 35 research projects by researchers in the United States, with partners around the world, have been tested on the LHPOST6, leading to important changes in design codes for commercial and residential structures and new insights into the seismic performance of geotechnical systems, such as foundations, tunnels and retaining walls. These projects have also helped validate the use of innovative technologies to make buildings more resilient during earthquakes.
